Character Traits Breakdown
On pages 10 and 11, Hinton writes "Dally had spent three years on the wild side of New York and had been arrested at the age of ten. He was tougher than the rest of us--tougher, colder, meaner. The shade difference that separates a greaser from a hood wasn't present in Dally. He was as wild as the boys in the downtown outfits, like Tim Shepard's gang." This reveals that Dallas is hateful, tough, and fierce.
On page 19 the author writes "We bought cokes and blew straws at the waitress, and walked around eying things that were lying out in the open until the manager got wise and suggested we leave. He was too late though; Dally walked out with two packages of Kools under his jacket." This reveals that Dallas is mischievous.
On page 20, the author states "We all had money to get in--it only costs a quarter if you're not in a car -- but Dally hated to do things the legal way. He liked to show that he didn't care whether there was a law or not. He went around trying to break laws." This reveals that Dally is uncaring, wild and bold.
On page 149, the author writes "Dally swallowed and reached over to push Johnny's hair back "Never could keep that hair back...that's what you get for tryin' to help people, you little punk, that's what you get..." "Damnit, Johnny..." he begged, slamming one fist against the wall, hammering it to make it obey his will. "Oh Damnit, Johnny, don't die, please don't die..." He suddenly bolted through the door and down the hall." This tells the reader that Dallas is alone.
On page 90, Hinton states "If Dally had said yes, Johnny would have gone back to the church without hesitation. He figured Dally knew more than he did, Dally's word was law" This shows that Dally is bossy, independent and demanding

Newspaper Obituary
Bob Sheldon died yesterday with multiple stab wounds to the stomach and sides. He was found dead this morning after his friend Randy Anderson reported it to authorities. He had this to say "We saw two greasers walking around and we pulled around to beat them up. We ended up pushing one's head down into the water and all of a sudden his friend came up behind Bob and stabbed him!" Coincidentally, two boys have gone missing with no trace as to where they were headed. Their names are believed to be Johnny Cade and Ponyboy Curtis. If you have any information on this crime, please report it to the local police department.
The funeral will be held at the town funeral home at 4;30 on Thursday. Our condolences go out to the Sheldon family on this tragic event.
Chapter 13
After finishing my story, I decided to call it "The Outsiders". Sodapop and Darry were both asleep, so I decided to watch some television and hit the hay myself.
In the morning I woke up unusually early and decided I would make some chocolate cake for breakfast. Soon after, I heard soda's usual mornign yell for breakfast and the thumping of feet to make it to the kitchen without falling down. "Chocolate cake!!" he yelled, his voice ripe with enthusiasm. "Gee, thanks Ponyboy!" he said taking a piece off the cake with his bare hands.
Soon it was time to walk to school. When I got to Mr. Symes' class and handed him the paper, he seemed a little shocked by how much a wrote. "Write a novel, Ponyboy?" "Nope just my story" I said, a grin flashing across my face. "I'll have to read it after school's over. Come here after school Pony, okay?" "Sure thing, Mr. Symes"
After school, I went to Mr. Symes' class and he had a big stack of papers. Soon I realized that he made a bunch of copies of my book! He must really have liked it. "Pony your story was incredible! I loved every moment of reading it so much that I have decided that the class will do a literary assessment of the book. I was very satisfied with myself after hearing that.
That night while I was in my bed I dreamed about my parents, but his time it was peaceful. They told me that they were very proud of me and that I would be great someday. They said everything would be fine and that it would be okay. When I woke up that morning, I knew everything would be alright.
